The Huddlesford herd is under the day to day management of Andy Cope. The herd averages 9200 l at 4.01% fat and 3.29% protein and numbers 250 cows with in the region of 260 followers. The herd is run on a land mass of 1050 acres spread over 5 farms. The farm has been organic since 1997, with 98% of the feed home grown. This includes clover rich grass leys, wheat and field beans. The herd is housed roughly equally between cubicles and straw yards. A parlour installed in Spring 2007 (16/32 swing over) is used for 2 x day milking.
The prefix was established in 1936 by Tom's father, a 1st generation farmer who started with Shorthorns before moving onto British Friesian's, which have now been superseded by Holsteins. Tom took over the farm from his father in 1962, and at this time there were 50 cows and 110 acres.
From the early 1980's Tom invested heavily in North American genetics, both live animals with deep pedigrees as well as proven AI sires which rapidly shaped and developed the herd very successfully.
We have been fortunate in recent years to forge strong bonds and friendships with Canadian breeders, some of whom we own cattle with such as Morsan Farms. We feel this puts us in a position to assist UK farmers in organising visits to Canada. We are also in a position where we can help import both livestock and embryos to the UK from Canada- please do not hesitate to contact us to find out more about this service.
An additional element to the business is the sale of dairy cell electric therapy boxes, as Andy is an agent. We have found the unit highly successful as a humane method of treating mastitis and cell counts, and suggest you follow the link below to find out more

We are also proud of our association with fellow breeders, we are part of the Golden Promise Syndicate, and as part of the syndicate we have access to members of the Pledge, Tobi and Gypsy Grand family.
